Key Requirements for a Self-Employed Residence Business Plan

When preparing a business plan for Self-Employed Residence permit, it's important to consider not only the business idea itself and financial calculations, but also how the supporting documents are formatted and submitted. In practice, non-compliance with formal requirements often becomes the reason for additional requests and delays in case processing.

This article covers the key blocks of documents that accompany a business plan:

  • rental of workspace,

  • confirmation of experience and qualifications,

  • finances and investments.

We'll examine what documents are needed, in what form to submit them, and what nuances deserve special attention.

1. Business Premises Rental

What premises to specify

The recommended option is renting external workspace, for example:

  • coworking space,

  • workstation or desk in a studio (if it corresponds to the type of activity).

Working from an apartment is formally acceptable, but significantly increases the risk of rejection or additional requests. If the apartment is not owned by the applicant, they may additionally request confirmation that the rental agreement explicitly permits commercial activity.

What documents to attach

There are two main options: a pre-contract for coworking rental or a rental agreement + invoice for payment of the first month.

Even before starting to prepare the business plan, you should have:

  • exact name and address of the workspace,

  • rental cost without VAT — this is the amount specified in the business plan and contract.

Coworking rental nuances:

  • often half-day rental is sufficient, without unlimited access;

  • it's better to pay for coworking after preparing other documents;

  • usually payment for 1 month without renewal is sufficient — at the time of submission, it's only important to confirm the fact of rental.

📝

All files must be named in Latin characters and clearly reflect the document's content.

Examples: Coworking_contrato, Coworking_factura.

2. Confirmation of Experience and Professional Qualifications

This block of documents shows that the applicant is competent to conduct the declared type of business. The following documents are required:

  • education diploma

  • additional training certificates

  • resume

  • documents confirming work experience (if necessary)

Education Diploma

The diploma is attached only if the education matches or is logically related to the future entrepreneurial activity. If the diploma is not relevant to the field, the main emphasis is placed on confirming work experience.

Additional Education Certificates

Courses, professional programs, and professional development significantly strengthen the document package, especially with a non-relevant diploma.

📄 File name: Certificado de curso_First Name Last Name
🇪🇸 Translation: preferably jurado (regular translation is acceptable, but additional request is possible)

Resume (CV)

This is a mandatory document that should logically connect education, work experience, and planned activity.

Language: immediately in Spanish

Confirmation of Work Experience

If education doesn't match the activity, work experience is recommended to be additionally confirmed:

  • when employed — work book or certificates from workplace (with jurado translation);

  • when working as self-employed/freelancer — contracts with clients corresponding to future activity.

General requirements for formatting education and experience documents

  • scans must be of good quality;

  • original and translation are combined into one PDF file (translation first, then document);

  • file name — in Latin characters, without special symbols.

3. Finances and Investments

The financial block is one of the most sensitive and frequently checked.

Bank Certificate

📝

File name: Certificado bancario

Translation: jurado mandatory (if not in Spanish)

The amount in the account must cover:

  • living expenses for applicant and family for 1 year (≈ €8,500 — applicant, ≈ €3,500 — each family member);

  • startup investments from the business plan;

  • first 3 months of business operation (monthly expenses × 3).

Sometimes the bank issues a certificate with average balance for a period (6–12 months). If it meets the standard — no problem. If low — it's better to obtain a certificate without indicating average balance.

From which bank to provide the certificate

We recommend using accounts in banks in Spain and other countries outside Russia. Accounts in Russian banks — especially in rubles — more often raise additional questions.

Confirmation of Already Made Investments

It's advisable to show that the project is already partially being implemented:

It's recommended to show that you have already invested in the project:

  • best option — invoices for purchased equipment, technology, furniture, etc.

  • acceptable — photos of serial numbers and general photo of equipment that will be used in the business

All documents and photos are combined into one PDF (translation → original)

Confirmation of Planned Investments

This item is optional but useful. If possible, you can request quotes for equipment or technology you plan to purchase — this additionally strengthens the application.

A competently prepared business plan is not only calculations and description of the idea, but also a clearly structured, formally correct package of documents. Premises rental, confirmation of experience and finances — three key blocks where additional requests most often arise.

The more precisely the requirements for content, translations, and file formatting are met, the higher the chances for calm and predictable application review.

If you still have questions about documents or want to discuss your case individually, consultation at the preparation stage often allows you to save months of time and avoid typical mistakes.
